After journeying through half my life (age 46, 2011), I’ve realized that during the first half of my life I sought success through the eyes of the world (material, prestige, accomplishment). Whereas, I do believe I was moderately successful in the terms of the world, what I have come to realize is that being significant is more important than being successful. So, with the concept of significance being the essential building foundation of my life,

“I, Scott Dale Aleridge, vow before God and the world, that during the second half of my life, I will strive to be SIGNIFCANT for/to others.”

MY LIFE MISSION: To help people transform their lives by the acceptance of God’s redeeming grace and love found through Jesus Christ.

MY LIFE COMMITMENTS

I am committed to God. The primary loyalty of my life is to God. I understand my relationship to God through Jesus Christ. I am committed fully to using my gifts in service to God. I understand that the order of my life should be GOD-FAMILY-CHURCH!

I am committed to a vital and loving marriage. I understand this vow to be sacred and I will honor this vow as holy. Beth is my life-long partner and I will cherish her until “we are parted by death” as given in our vows.

I am committed to a vital family. As a father, I will show strength through love and kindness to my children (James Scott & Lindsey). I will take care of their physical, emotional, and financial needs (food, shelter, clothing, encouragement & love) while at the same time teaching them to be good stewards and productive citizens, so that at the appropriate age they can sustain themselves.  In addition, I will strive to help my children grow in their faith journeys so they too, like their parents and grandparents, will accept God grace through Jesus Christ.

I am committed to the practice of “healthy” ministry. I will embrace the strengths of our denomination (United Methodist Church and TN Conference), while at the same time, I will strive to avoid the “churning waters” (Bishop Wills elder’s Sermon, June 12, 2005) of ministry through comparison and competition with other colleagues in ministry.

I am committed to the church I am assigned to serve. I will always remember that my role as pastor is never about me. My role as pastor is always about God. As pastor, I will strive to help the churches I serve put God first.

I am committed to stay emotionally, spiritually and physically healthy (MIND, SPIRIT, & BODY). My daily devotions, time with God, physical exercise, and rest are essential to this personal balance.

I am committed to be a confidant and good friend to ten people. (Currently: Beth, Wayne , BA, Gil., Mike , Glen*need to develop more* ) Furthermore, I will strive to be a minister for other ministers.

I am committed to being involved and participating in a formal on-going accountability covenant group.

I am committed to life-long learning and will strive to improve my mind and ministry through educational opportunities (seminars, workshops, classes, reading, studying, etc.).

10.    I am committed to helping improve the community                 in which I live through civic participation.
